Has it been that long!!! by Andrew Swenson

Well here we are August 2024 and the last post on this site was from October 2022.

A lot has happened in the last 22 months.

Lucy Chen joint the team in March 2023 (there will be a bio up on the teams page soon)

Garry Villar left to start his Master’s in Architecture in June 2023.

Parisa Mostafaei joined the team in August 2023 and left at the end of June 2023.

The Howard Springs Tavern project which was the last post in October 2022 is almost complete and we will get some photo’s up soon.

We have been involved with a range of projects from small NT Government projects of a more technical nature, concept designs for a residential projects, a multi-storey residential project to name a few. Over the next couple of months we hope to get some of these projects up on the website.

We will try to keep eveyone updated as new content is added.

We've been gazumped by Andrew Swenson

So we have started adding new projects to the website every 2 weeks and we have 2 commercial projects that were going to be added over the next few weeks.

However they have appeared in other online publications before we could get add them!!

At lunchtime today while checking out the NT News online we discovered that they have picked up the Development Application that was submitted 3 weeks ago for changes to the Howard Springs Tavern and developed the following story NT News Article

Then this afternoon we found that Jaytex Constructions have showcased a new project on Linked-In that they are constructing and which we designed, documented and provided marketing images & video for

So we will have to pull our fingers out an get these projects onto the website so that everyone can see what we have been working on.

Spare seat at in4D by Andrew Swenson

It’s been a busy start to the year.

Isabella finished up at the end of last year, and in4D employed a first year student to help out over the Uni Summer holidays. They have now headed south again to start the second year of their Architecture degree.

We then looked at bringing on another recent CDU Bachelor of Design graduate but that didn’t end up happening.

That means that in4D has a spare workstation and while work isn’t super busy right now, there is a chance things could pick up again really soon.

Therefore if you are a Darwin based Student of Architecture or recent CDU graduate of the Bachelor of Design course who would like to spend some time learning ArchiCAD with an option of working at in4D then drop us a line via the “Get in touch” page.

2021 NT Architecture Awards news by Andrew Swenson

The 2021 NT Architecture Awards were held last Friday night, and in4D’s Malabar Apartments was awarded the COLORBOND® Award for Steel Architecture.

The jury citation reads …

Multi Residential in Darwin is commonly constructed in concrete block, which whilst robust and efficient to erect is relatively thermally inefficient as the block work stores and re-radiates heat into the apartment environments.  The block work also requires ongoing maintenance to seal it from the constant and heavy wet season rains experienced in Darwin.

Malabar Apartments addresses these issues through the use of COLORBOND® corrugated sheeting as a sun and rain screen to clad the perimeter block work shell. The use of the COLORBOND® cladding is strategic being restricted to external exposed block work walls, with the deeply recessed block walls to balconies left unclad.

The jury found the project’s application of COLORBOND® to be highly commendable providing a good environmental outcome by improving the insulation and energy performance of the building skin as well as reducing life cycle costs for the development and its occupants. In addition the COLORBOND® sheeting provides a cost effective and meaningful way of adding expression and articulation to the built form of the development providing an important benchmark for residential apartment buildings in Darwin.
